I ran across an article
that listed 93 movies that are currently being remade and some have already completed
production. In going through the list, I
am astounded at how desperate Hollywood really is and the fact that there seems
to be very little originality left in Hollywood. The list of remakes is atrocious, and I just
can’t help but to ask myself, why? Why
is this even necessary? On some of these
reboots, the original is good enough to stand on its own, on some others, the
original is so bad, why bother to redo it again since it was awful to begin
with. I don’t understand the logic in
this assumption that an audience will pay to see anything. I think Hollywood is going to be in for a
rude awaking on these reboots.
The thing about most of
them is that there is a nostalgia attached to the original, good or bad, which
is something that a remake will be sorely lacking. Most people would just rather watch the
original, instead of suffer through some half-cocked remade version of what
Hollywood thinks that audiences are willing to pay to see.
I am going to list some of
these remakes, and then let you decide if this group is worth the effort. I myself, say none of these should be
remade. Let the original stand on its
own merit. Also, to top it off, some are
being remade for the 3rd and 4th time. Enough Already! Please give us a break. I know there are some original filmmakers looking
for an opportunity to put their ideas on the big screen, please give them the
opportunity. Stop rehashing this already
done to death crap. Give creative,
original filmmakers the chance to shine.
We are more than willing to pay to see quality, creative film-making,
stop playing us like were stupid!
